Community Options, Inc. is a national non-profit agency providing services to individuals with disabilities in 12 states.
We are currently seeking a skilled Director of Nursing inthe Queens, NY. The Director of Nursing leads a team, including RNs and LPNs, for an assigned region to care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This person will support teams with day-to-day operations and challenges to meet the medical and healthcare needs of the individuals we support.
Starting Salary: $130,000
Responsibilities
Lead and train teams to support programmatic initiatives, goals, and the unique needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
Manage team performance through effective communication, training, performance management, staff meetings, employee recognition, and internal control reviews
Provide treatment and health care procedures ordered by a physician and required by the standards of professional practice or law
Train staff on the healthcare needs, medical conditions, and plan of care for assigned individuals
Develop and conduct comprehensive training programs
Develop and update nursing care plans and health care plans with an interdisciplinary team to include any concerns, observations, and behavioral developments
Ensure nursing protocols comply with state and board of nursing regulations and guidelines
Ensure nurse assessments and program documentation are completed accurately and timely
Monitor health and medical conditions of individuals and refer for medical services as needed
Assess systemic risk management issues with the administration of medications
Available after hours by phone for on call emergency telephone triage
Assume regional RN responsibilities as needed
Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned
Employee must cooperate with the license and department staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of checks of criminal background, central registry, child abuse registry, and drug testing
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field
Valid RN license allowing you to practice in assigned state
Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
Minimum two years of experience as a registered nurse
Experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
Knowledge of state regulatory agency operations and standards relevant to supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
Team-oriented with demonstrated leadership experience
Experience with problem solving against multiple priorities
Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm in crisis situations
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Experience working with electronic health record systems; Therap preferred
