Community Options, Inc. is a national non-profit agency providing services to individuals with disabilities in 12 states.
We are seeking a Community Liaison Specialist in Prince George, MD. The Community Liaison Specialist facilitates community inclusion for people with disabilities by supporting integration in the community. This person will work with individuals to build a natural support network, cultivate meaningful relationships, and help achieve goals.
Starting pay is $18.00/per hour
Responsibilities
Develop an understanding of the interests, goals, needs, and capacities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
Support individuals with developing meaningful relationships in the community
Help individuals work through issues and daily challenges
Advise individuals on the appropriate behavior within different settings and circumstances
Facilitate the Circles of Support by bringing friends, family, and staff together on a regular basis to help an individual realize their dreams and goals
Increase the awareness of community inclusion within the organization and the community
Recruit and train interns and volunteers doing community inclusion work
Raise awareness with staff and community members on the rights of people with disabilities, discrimination, and the benefits of greater inclusion while helping to dispel ignorance and fear
Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned
Employee must cooperate with the license and department staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED with two years of experience in social services required;
Bachelor’sdegree in a related field with one year of experience in social services preferred
Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
Experience with problem solving against multiple priorities
Experience facilitating groups and supporting others in a supervisory capacity
Ability to bring people together in positive ways
Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with individuals receiving supports
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of checks of criminal background, central registry, child abuse registry, and drug testing
